Restaurant/Fast-Food Underwriting Guidelines

 

Franchise – Fast Food – Donut Shops – Diners – Delis – Take Out
 

Fine & Casual Dining – Sandwich Shops – Pizza Parlors

 

  • Wet-foam fire suppression (UL300 standard) with verified maintenance agreement with at least semi-annual service.
  • No frame buildings without sprinklers!
  • No unprotected business!
  • No business less than 2 miles from water.  If less than 2 miles, submit for approval excluding wind.
  • No liquor sales more than 25% of total sales.
  • Central station alarm preferred.
  • No restaurant other than diners and fast food open past 1 AM.
  • No bars, taverns or inns!
  • No restaurants located in habitational buildings.
  • No risk with three-year loss ratios over 40% or where there is evidence of frequency of losses.
  • No risks that do not have at least three years of hard copy loss runs.
  • Only incidental catering and banquets.
  • No delivery exposure.
  • No new ventures, unless prior experience.
  • Minimum $1,000 property deductible.
  • Risk of $50,000 or more in premium need at least 60 days lead time.
  • Fully completed Acord applications, three years of hard copy loss runs.
  • Both sales and public square footage should be provided as the determination of premium varies by carrier.
  • All buildings 25 years and older must have plumbing, heating and electric updated within 10 years and roof updated within 20 years.
  • Misrepresentations of the submission information will not be tolerated!  This is vital and will be monitored.
  • Any new policies that are written where major loss control recommendations are ignored will be cancelled and not reinstated.
